An essential part of treatment trimming your nails correctly will ensure comfort and prevent complications such as ingrown nails.
-
Left untreated ingrown toenails are very painful, they can get infected and, in very severe circumstances can actually lead to infection of the bone with eventual loss of the toe.
-
Fungal nail infections are very common causing the nail to discolour and thicken. It can even be quite painful Early treatment of a mild infection can often be resolved quite easily. More severe infection will required long term treatment. Nail fungus is also called onychomycosis (on-ih-koh-my-KOH-sis).
-
Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin. They are the result of your skin protecting itself against pressure or friction. Whilst they can be unsightly the pain and discomfort is usually the reason for treatment. If you have diabetes or another condition that causes poor blood flow to your feet, you’re at greater risk of complications from corns and calluses.
-
There can be many reasons for pain in the foot, particularly the heel, including ill-fitting shoes, running and jumping on hard surfaces, physical injury or simply an abnormal walking style. Plantar fasciitis (PLAN-tur fas-e-I-tis) is one of the most common causes of heel pain.
-
Orthoses are commonly prescribed, made and fitted to reduce pain and improve quality of life. They are commonly used to treat “flat feet’ (pes planus), rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis.
-
Your private medical cover may provide for Podiatry treatments. Check with your insurer.
-
Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) is a government incentive which allows individuals with a chronic medical condition to receive Medicare rebates for allied health services, including Podiatry. The EPC referrals are valid for 12 months, once your referral has been completed or expired you must return to your doctor for a review and to arrange a new referral.
